City Ticketed For Water Violation

In Georgia, the water shortage is a very serious issue.  Everyone hs been ordered to conserve water and any non-essential water use has been banned while the state tries to figure out what to do.

So, in Alpharetta, Georgia, when an officer noticed a sprinkler running to water shrubbery at City Hall on three different occassions, he did the right thing.  He wrote the city a warning and two citations which carry fines totalling $500.

The city administrator says that there has been a breakdown in the communication between the city staff and the contract company that takes care of maintenance and that after the warning was issued that word was sent to turn the sprinklers off.

When the officer saw the sprinklers running over the weekend, he issued two citations.  When the city administrator received the citations the sprinklers were ordered to be shut off, and that time, it actually happened.

The town will not be required to pay the fines because all fines are paid to the city administrator and writing a check to themselves would be an effort in futility.
